Captions vs. Comments: What’s the Difference?

Think of captions and comments on your Loop like watching your favorite movie. 🎥

Captions are like when you turn subtitles on — they are visible to everyone watching. They add helpful context, like what a character is saying or where a scene is taking place, and can even enhance the experience with some fun details (and emojis 🎉).

Comments, on the other hand, are like the group chat with your friends while you’re all watching the same show. They’re private to just the people in the chat (the Loop app) and let you share your reactions, jokes, or theories as the story unfolds.

Both are optional, but when you use them, they make sharing your Loop moments even more exciting and connected!

Captions: The "Subtitles"

Captions are like little name tags for your photos. They give context, share memories, and let everyone know the story behind the image.

Here’s what you need to know about captions:

  • 🖼️ Appear on the Loop frame and in the app, so everyone can enjoy them.
  • ✍️ Can only be added at the time of photo upload (we’re working on making them editable in the future!).
  • 🛠️ Cannot currently be edited or deleted after being added.
  • 😍 Dress them up with emojis for an extra pop of personality!
  • VIP Tip: Some Loop customers use captions to help elderly family members recall people, places, or moments in the photo.

How to Add Captions:

  1. When uploading photos in the Loop app, select your photos and tap Add ___ Photos.
  2. The caption entry box will appear above the album selection area, below the photo(s).
  3. Swipe through the photos to add a unique caption to each, caption only a few, or skip captions entirely—it’s up to you!

Comments: The "Group Chat"

Comments are where the fun begins—think of them as the lively conversations sparked by your photos.

Here’s what you need to know about comments:

  • 💬 Only appear in the Loop app—not visible on the Loop frame.
  • 📲 Give your photos an interactive feel by allowing back-and-forth conversations.
  • 🔔 You can turn on or off notifications for new comments or reactions in your phone’s app settings.
  • ❤️ Reactions (like hearts) can also be added to photos for some quick love!

How to Add Comments:

  1. From the Loop app’s home screen, scroll to the photo you want to comment on and tap the blue message button to type your comment or respond to another person's comment.
  2. You can also tap the heart button to add a reaction (different options will pull up once it's tapped).
  3. Another way to comment:
    • Go to Albums in the app.
    • Select the album and scroll to the photo you want.
    • Tap the photo, then hit Comment from the bottom menu.
  4. View the number of comments on a photo in the album menu—look for the red notification bubble showing the comment count on the thumbnail images.

What Captions and Comments Have in Common

  • Optional: Both features are totally optional—use them to make your photos more engaging when you want.
  • Emojis Galore: Add some pizzazz to both captions and comments with emojis!
  • Shared with All: Captions and comments are visible to everyone with access to the album (captions on the frame and comments in the app)

‼️ Special Notes to Keep in Mind ‼️

  • 📱 Text-to-Loop Photos: Captions can’t be added when sending photos via text message (yet!).
  • 🔄 Editing Requests: Neither captions nor comments can currently be edited or deleted, but we hear you loud and clear—this feature is on our radar! For now, if you make a mistake, just tap the photo in the app, select 'delete' and reupload with the fixed version.

Captions and comments are small touches that bring big connection to your Loop. Whether you’re narrating the story or joining the conversation, they’re here to help make your memories even more meaningful!
