How Can I Set My Loop Up As a Gift?Updated 2 months ago

Gifting a Loop Frame: The Best Setup Options

Gifting a Loop frame can look a little different depending on who will manage the frame after it’s gifted. Below are the two most common scenarios and the best way to set each one up—plus what to do if a frame needs to be reset.

Note: We know gifting and account transfers can feel confusing. While we don’t currently have a fully automated gifting mode for transferring ownership or preloading photos, the steps below are the simplest and smoothest way to make gifting work well right now.

Option 1: You’ll Be Fully Managing the Frame

(Great for elderly family members who just want to enjoy the photos)

If the person receiving the frame does not want to manage the app or send photos, you can stay fully in control.

How this works:

  • You set up the frame using your Loop account

  • You manage photos, albums, and settings from the app

  • The recipient simply enjoys the frame

When you gift the frame, use your Loop username and password to log in on the frame itself. This keeps everything under one account and avoids extra setup.

You will need to reconnect Wi-Fi once the frame gets to it's destination, and you can do so easily using the following instructions:

Reconnect Wi-Fi After Gifting

  • Tap on your Loop frame's screen
  • Tap on Settings
  • Tap on Wi-Fi (underneath the Configuration menu)
  • From there you can select a different Wi-Fi network and enter the password

Option 2: They’ll Want Their Own Account & Sharing Controls

(Best for most gifting situations)

If the recipient will want:

  • Their own Loop login

  • Control over who can send photos and who they share albums with

  • Their own albums and settings

Then it’s best not to set the frame up under your account at all.

Instead of setting up the frame itself,  follow these steps:

  1. Create a special album in your Loop app for the recipient.

  2. Add all the photos you want to start to that album (you can always add more later). This is a good time to invite other family members to share with this album, or create multiple albums and sharing settings based on your needs. [more about albums here]

  3. Leave the frame in the box, unconfigured.

  4. When you’re ready (right before or after gifting), send them an album invite from your Loop app.

  5. They’ll set up the frame themselves, connect it to Wi-Fi, and create their own account.

  6. Once they accept your album invite, the photos will automatically appear on their frame.

This allows them to fully own their account while still receiving all the photos you carefully curated for them.

This is the cleanest option when the recipient wants independence and control.

Why We Don’t Recommend Switching Accounts After Setup

We don’t recommend:

  • Preloading photos under your account on the frame

  • Gifting it to them

  • Then logging into a different account on the same frame

That process requires a factory reset, and you’ll still need to share albums manually afterward—so it ends up creating extra steps.

No worries—you can reset the frame and start fresh.

If the frame was already set up under the wrong account and needs to be transferred, follow the instructions here:

After resetting, we recommend using the album-sharing method above to get photos onto the frame.
